Tired of buying roleplaying books that are chock-full of goodies and then discovering that you can never find the ones you need because the book has no index? With a SwoRD Hypertext, every page is its own index: the information you want is never more than a click away.
Does your love for innovative new material for your game mean that you wind up needing a pack mule to carry all your rules and references to game night? SwoRD Hypertexts can put innovative open game content from a wide array of publishers at your fingertips and seamlessly integrate the new material with the latest edition of the core rules. A SwoRD Hypertext is a System Reference Document that's got the power of the World Wide Web and the limitless potential of the Open Gaming Movement. And, best of all, it's free for you to use in any way you can imagine and the Open Game License allows. You can cut and paste the text into your own character sheets or game notebooks, modify it to create your own house rules, and even re-use parts of the SwoRD to create, distribute, and publish your own books and hypertexts.
Sample Sword Index: SRD Creatures [alpha] These possibilities are not new; the SwoRD Project simply uses electronic text, or "modifiable source code," to liberate open game content from the shackles of the printed word. Of course, there's a lot to be said for a beautifully illustrated book you can hold in your hands. That's why all the open content that appears in the SwoRD is paired with a link to the book in which it originally appeared. It costs you nothing to try using these rules in your game, and if you find something you like, you always know how to go back to the source for more! Behemoth3 will be contributing the complete open game content of our own Horde Books--all the monsters, plus a wealth of feats, spells, magic items, traps, and treasures--to the SwoRD Project. We are proud to be in the forefront of the SwoRD Project; as both businessmen and gamers, we believe that making open content truly free is in the best interests of the roleplaying community and the gaming industry.
To realize its full potential, the Project needs you. Creators and publishers can join the effort to enrich SwoRD with new contributions of open content. Fans can help open their favorite gaming material into the new millennium by first encouraging its publisher to participate in the Project and then helping to code and link the SwoRD pages.
